🧾 Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
- 1/2 cup cold butter (cubed)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp lemon juice)
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley or chives (optional)
👩🍳 Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
- Add cold butter and mix with your hands or a pastry cutter until crumbly.
- Stir in the cheese.
- Pour in the buttermilk and mix gently until a soft dough forms (don’t overmix).
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, gently fold it a few times, then roll to about 2 cm thickness.
- Cut into rounds using a glass or cutter.
- Place on the tray and bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter and sprinkle herbs on top.

- Don’t overwork the dough for soft, flaky layers
- Use very cold butter for the best texture
